The Congress commenced with a scintillating launch on the 9th of
September, 2006 at the Students' Representative Council's Conference
Room of the University of Ghana from 9am to 12 noon. The speaker for
the launch was the Dean of the University of Ghana Medical School,
Prof Lawson who is also an outstanding old boy.
It was at this launching that the theme for the Congress which is
"Discipline Amongst Tertiary Students'; A vital Tool for effective
National Development" was gracefully outdoored and members given a
highlight of programmes they were to expect.
Subsequently, the Congress Planning Sub-Committees were formed and the
Congress Budget and Proposal were prepared to embark on massive
awareness and sponsorship drive.
The National Executive Committee of the Amanfoo fraternity was the
first to be given a copy as courtesy and formalities demand.
Subsequently, the executive committee and the chairman for the CPC
attended Senior Amanfoo meetings particularly the Greater Accra
regional branch to make them aware of the 6th Annual Congress and any
pertinent issues which were due to arise.
All things well put in place, the D-day dawned with the actual
commencement as it happened to be one of the most interesting and
educative inter tertiary congresses ever held in any tertiary
institution in the country.
Everything started on Thursday, 1st March 2007 with the arrival of
delegates from UCC, KNUST, IPS, UMAT, and Pentecost University. First
to arrive were the most nearest delegates, IPS and Pentecost
University. It must be boldly emphasized that, long before these first
delegates came, Seniors and Adehyee in the University of Ghana had
already gathered at the Central Cafeteria, the arrival venue, since
dusk around 5:30 chanting nostalgic old school songs to warmly welcome
them. No wonder the whole university was cacophonous with live songs
of Seniors and Adehyee when the bus carted in the UCC delegates around
9 in the evening.
Members intensified their singing as they welcomed
delegates and waited for the last batch of delegates from KNUST who
arrived rather late because of some transportation hitches. In fact,
it was ecstasy galore to see good old pals once again. All delegates
were given their Delegate's Tags through their respective executives.
And everyone retired to bed with a fondness of brotherliness and
passion awaiting the subsequent events.
The first day had over 600 people at the University of Ghana campus.
