The next day was Friday, 2nd March which kicked off with the Grand
Seminar for the Congress between the hours of 11:30am and 2pm in the
Commonwealth Hall Conference Hall. We lost our first venue, the UG SRC
Conference Room, to renovation works. The seminar started with an
opening prayer from Senior Gyabaah. Miss Janat A. Yeboah introduced
the chairman for the occasion; Senior K.F Asante.
Among a host of
reputable Amanfoo present to grace the occasion and drum in their
words of advice as well were Senior Asamoah Manu, who stood in for
Senior Prof. Agyapong ( Vice Chancellor of the Methodist University)
as the Main Speaker, Senior Nana Ernest Asare who was the Guest of
Honour, and Rev Mrs Grace Afranie Osei as the Special Guest of Honour.
Also present were Senior Elijah, 2004/2005 Amanfoo-Adehyee
president, Legon Branch and the Queen Mother of Akuaffo Hall (one of
the traditional Halls of the University of Ghana ), Bernice and her
special Aide.
The main speaker spoke on the theme for the Congress which was
"Discipline Amongst Tertiary Students; A Vital Tool For Effective
National Development." He advised members "to be very disciplined in
all spheres of life, for it is discipline which would take them far in
life."
The chairman, in his turn, pledged his support and the support of
Senior Amanfoo to all Amanfoo-Adehyee programmes and also advised
members to take their studies very seriously.
The floor was then opened for discussion around 2:30 pm. Members
contributed and asked various pertinent questions. Members took time
to know the activities of Senior Amanfoo and Adehyee and how the two
are harmoniously coordinated. The chairman expounded everything to
members gathered until nothing was left to be discussed again at
around 3pm. A vote of thanks was given by Miss Ernestina Danquah and
Senior Bilson thanked God on our behalf. With a highlight of the
programmes from the MC Miss Louise Carol, members were treated to some
refreshing soft drinks.
From the Conference hall, it was time to show off our glistening and
gaudy colours to the whole University of Ghana community. The Amanfoo
and Adehyee paraphernalia! You know? Members donned the College
cloths, college ties, Prempeh white shirts, green shirts, house
jerseys, Yagss clothes, uniforms, among many others. Indeed, it was a
proud display of whatever was Amanfoo or Adehyee. No wonder a non
delegate Legon student asked one Senior Richard, Beach committee
co-chair, what made we Prempeh and Yaa Asantewaa Old Students' so
proud of your alma maters?
That evening was no sour one. Hot clubbing. The venue was the
Neighbourhood Nite Club at Dzorwulo which seemed to burst at its seams
on that night. The venue is about a one-quarter km drive from the
University of Ghana campus. It was entirely a free night for our
ladies. And all the gentlemen as usual were undoubtedly at the peak
of their comportment. Songs rolled over and over until the last person
dropped around 5 am the following day.
